Prime Minister Threatens Sovereignty in the East

Even though amendments to NAFO got voted down 147 to 142 my Members of Parliment from across this country.

Even though all MPs from Newfoundland and Labrador have been strongly opposed to the NAFO amendment.

Even though fisheries experts and industry professionals have been shouting their disapproval.

Even though the amendments amount to an obvious breach in the sovereignty of the East, allowing foreign vessels to patrol Canadians in their own waters.

Even though NAFO itself shows a consistent disregard for quotas and even the conservation advice of its own scientists.

Even though NAFO has at its core European nations who this year banned seal products from the East Coast of Canada.

Even through all this - Harper pushes the NAFO amendments through. In what country would the leader dare go against the will of the people? None that call themselves a democracy. Canada under Harper is the globe's newest dictatorship.

  1. Gerry Higgins has spent more than a decade educating people about the dangers of chronic power line exposure (ELF-EMF exposure) and cancer. His family and his life have been altered by this health risk, and his efforts to bring about change in governmental response are admirable. Since the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) classified ELF-EMF as a Group 2B carcinogen (Possible Carcinogen) governmental agencies like Health Canada should have already taken the lead and implemented new, lower limits for public safety. Since they have not, citizens around the world, much like Gerry Higgins, have carried this effort forward through dogged local action campaigns. I support Gerry's work and urge Canadians to do the same. at a minimum, Health Canada should formally adopt precautionary measures designed to bring public exposures along power lines down below 1 milligauss (0.1 microTesla) where there is human occupancy.
